Now In Force - National Minimum Wage (NMW)
As reported in these newsletters several times already, the penalty for employers failing to pay their employees NMW has now increased to £20,000 from 7th March 2014. You will recall that the Government next wishes to legislate so that the £20,000 fine will be payable per employee underpaid in the near future.
Also coming into force from 7th March is an amendment meaning that a worker on one of the Government's new traineeships in England will not qualify for NMW.
You may also recall from last year that employers failing to pay NMW could now be 'named and shamed' and this has now happened for the first time with five employers falling foul of the new tougher scheme. As well as being publicly named the five companies will most likely face the stiffer financial penalties detailed above.
